Artist Surgery - On Audiences

The Artist Surgeries are designed to offer a space for in-depth, open exchange with someone who has a specialism, lived experience, or interest in a particular topic, field or subject area. 

 

You are invited to bring along questions or ideas you want to explore in the session that relate to your own creative practice.  Don’t be shy!

Artist Biography


Helen Freshwater

Dr Helen Freshwater works at the University of Newcastle as a researcher and lecturer. She has a long-standing research interest in theatre audiences.

 

Her publications in this area include Theatre & Audience (2009) and ‘British Theatre Audiences since 1945: ownership, interaction, agency’, forthcoming in The Cambridge Companion to British Theatre Since 1945 in 2022.

 

She was Co-Investigator on ‘Understanding Audiences for the Contemporary Arts’, a 36-month AHRC-funded project which concluded in 2020.
