About

RADIOMATON is an immersive and participatory installation that blends dance and digital arts. This innovative work invites participants to step into a photobooth-like cabin, where they are challenged to repeat aloud words from a live radio broadcast while mimicking gestures that are teleprompted to them.

By exploring themes such as the construction of truth, media influence, the spread of "fake news," and the role of the body in perceiving and transmitting information, RADIOMATON places participants in a state of cognitive overload. This reveals the vulnerability and authenticity that emerge when social filters dissolve. Each performance is filmed and remixed into a vast collective kaleidoscope, creating a dynamic interplay of gestures and voices that highlights the fragility of the validity of the content we consume daily.

RADIOMATON offers a unique opportunity to explore, through one's own body, how media shapes our movements and minds. Engaging, thought-provoking, and deeply human, this installation invites you to question your relationship with information and the world around you.

Artist biographies

MARIE BÉLAND - COCREATOR

Marie Béland, founder of MARIBÉ-SORS DE CE CORPS, explores choreography through experimental and performative works. Her practice questions performance fabrication, stage artifice, and the "body-speak" phenomenon. Collaborating with leading Montreal artists, her creations, presented globally, transform everyday gestures into dance, blending truth, fiction, and plausibility on stage.

SIMON LAROCHE - COCREATOR

Simon Laroche, an artist and interaction designer, creates installations, performances, and robotic artworks critiquing biological, artificial, and social systems. Co-founder of Projet EVA, his transgressive works explore human-computer relationships. He teaches Electronic Arts at Concordia University and collaborates across theatre, dance, and cinema, with works presented worldwide.

KATHY CASEY - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - MONTRÉAL DANSE

Kathy Casey, Artistic Director of Montréal Danse since 1996, supports choreographers redefining dance. Through dramaturgy, she fosters bold ideas and innovative expressions of the body. She leads research workshops, labs, and interdisciplinary projects while advising independent choreographers in Montreal.
