“A rare experience"
Art Scene Wales
When did you last make time to talk? Eddie and Sonia host a series of conversations that happen over 6 minutes.
In Neither Here Nor There, Eddie and Sonia host and ask and answer questions about how it’s all going, big unfathomable questions about the world, small questions about the state of your garden. Weather permitting Sonia and Eddie take the audience on a short walk, there’s small talk, a bite to eat, tables, chairs, questions, talking and listening.
Eddie Ladd and Sonia Hughes describe themselves as two middle-aged award-winning international provincial artists. They are the ultimate hosts and introduce with warmth and openness. It’s intimate, funny and awkward, yet as it should be. Born out of a frustration with superficial connections, iPhones, twitter, instagram, the binary nature of public debate and the rest, Neither Here Nor There creates a space, some time and we slow down. Complexity takes time.
Previous audience members have described the show as “Inspiring, heartfelt and engaging” and “the opposite of fascism”.
This project has been inspired by research undertaken by Frank Bock and Katye Coe and was originally created for Experimentica Festival.
Sonia Hughes artist, writer, performer is currently Associate Artist for Festspillene I Nord-Norge. She has worked with Jo Fong over the last 10 years, they met in a rehearsal room with the company Quarantine. She is currently touring her public art work I Am From Reykjavik.
Eddie Ladd has spent thirty-five golden years in showbusiness. She started making shows in 1989 and these theatre and site-specific pieces have toured internationally. Using new technologies from the very beginning, she received a NESTA fellowship in 2002 to develop this element in her work. She has collaborated with her colleagues in Light/Ladd/Emberton since 2014 and has worked consistently with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Frân Wen and Arad Goch as a performer and movement director. She teaches in schools and colleges and is a Creative Fellow at Aberystwyth University.
