Unfolding Theatre and Curious Monkey are both touring theatre companies based in Newcastle. They share a love of bringing people together. They started co-hosting North East Culture Social in the first lockdown along with BalletLORENT, Curious Arts, Gosforth Civic Theatre, Open Clasp, Live Theatre, Northern Stage & November Club.
Curious Monkey is an award-winning theatre company of sanctuary based in northeast England. The company was started after founders Amy and Jen met on a plane to South Africa. Our work shares stories rooted in the experiences of the communities we work with in the north east of England and beyond. We run long term projects making theatre and films with people who have experience of being a refugee or asylum seeker and those with experience of the care system.
Unfolding Theatre makes big-hearted theatre that delights in bringing people together. Community-based co-creation with surprising combinations of people generates warm, distinctive theatre, rich in ideas.
Our award-winning touring productions include Hold On Let Go, Multiverse Arcade, Putting The Band Back Together, Lands of Glass, Best in the World and Building Palaces.
Unfolding Theatre was founded in 2008 in Newcastle upon Tyne by Artistic Director, Annie Rigby.
